My name is Andrea Vu, and like many creatives, I stumbled into something magical without quite knowing it at the time.
The first stone of LaLaWool was quietly laid in 2020, when the world slowed down and life shifted indoors. In the stillness of our Sydney home, I explored painting, sewing, and crocheting — reaching for creativity in uncertain times. But it was crochet that stayed. The slow, rhythmic stitching became a gentle ritual. It gave me space to breathe, reflect, and reconnect — with myself, and later, with a growing community of makers.
What began as small garment experiments evolved into pattern testing for other designers. And through that journey, I discovered my deep love for fibre. I became fascinated not just by color and texture, but by movement — how yarn draped, how it settled against the skin, how it spoke without words. Over time, I developed what felt like a fibre intuition, often guessing the content of a garment just by how it moved. Natural fibres, especially, captivated me. Wool, silk, alpaca, possum — they weren’t just beautiful, they were soulful. They offered warmth, grace, and a quieter kind of luxury rooted in sustainability.
In 2021, I released my first original crochet pattern. Opportunities followed, from big-name collaborations to exciting design work. But throughout it all, I held close one simple promise: to honor natural fibres. Not as a trend, but as a reflection of my values — care, comfort, and kindness.
By 2025, my husband and I took a leap of faith and founded LaLaWool, our humble family-run yarn shop built on everything we cherish: artistry, integrity, and love for the craft. Every skein we stock is handpicked, custom-dyed, and quality-checked with purpose. If it doesn’t bring joy the moment you hold it, we simply don’t offer it.
But our story isn’t just about yarn — it’s about people. That’s why we pledge 10% of our annual profits to UNICEF, helping children around the world access safety, education, and hope. It’s not a slogan. It’s a quiet act of belief that small gestures can help create big change.
